Monday, Monday

Had a good weekend here. I wore my oh-so-cute petticoat skirt on Saturday and I felt rather black applish in it indeed. I wore a pink tank with it as it is hot, but also a little brown short sleeved sweater on top and my brown mary janes. So cute!! I loved it so much I decided to go out and buy the other two colors it comes in, red and brown. I'm thinking of embellishing them a bit, maybe some buttons or a little white lace added to them. Maybe some pockets...

I was feeling rather under the weather this weekend so I ended up watching a few movies to cheer me up. I watched Amelie, always a fave, but I hadn't seen it in awhile and it was extra nice to watch it again. Why can't they make good movies like this more often? Also, A Good Year (Oh, Russell Crowe, you are so sexy even goofy) and Becoming Jane (the costumes!). All very inspirational. Afterwards I put the finishing details on a painting I've been working on and I'll post a picture of it here soon. I'm so excited, it's not the first I've painted, but it is definitely the one I'm the most happy with.

Happy Monday!

Looking Up

I'm always painting and redecorating my home and my last completed project was my bedroom. I painted the room a pale blue - schoal water from Ralph Lauren - and decided to paint my furniture white as it is a small room and it would make the room seem more open and airy. I had just finished painting my chest of drawers when my cat decided to test it out for himself before I put the drawer pulls back on. Here he is posing beautifully on the freshly painted (barely dry) furniture while looking up at the armoire next to it for his next move.

In the background you can see my round mirror (also white) and in that mirror is the reflection of another wall with my favorite portrait of Mary Tudor. I love portraits and I love the Tudors so this was my birthday present to myself last year.

Little House on the Bench

I've seen quite a few paintings with little houses with red roofs lately so it inspired me to make my own little house with a red roof, but out of a papermache house instead of paint. It's also a music house - papered with genuine vintage music sheet paper. Check it out - isn't it cute??

Fashion Post

I meant to start posting crafty things first, but I have to take a moment to post on fashion for a moment. I was sad when Black Apple's fashion blog, Some Girls Wander, went on hiatus (though with her upcoming move and very busy business I can totally understand why), but now I have something worthy of the fashion posting so I might as well post it in my own blog.
I was at Target today and was shocked to find one that seemed to be just perfect for me. Check it out:

It's the petticoat skirt by Merona. Click here to check it out yourself - the close up pic is better as you can see the tiny stripes. It's even cuter in person, though. The lace is stitched at the bottom giving that layered slip look. The lace is pretty and vintagey looking. It also comes in red and brown, but this color looks the cutest. But the best part?? The striped fabric part totally shocked me as I'm using some older fabric at home to make dolls and this fabric is almost exactly the same as the fabric I'm using to make the doll's legs. Tiny little grey-blue stripes. It was spookily familiar when I saw this skirt and just had to grab it as my own. It's kind of like they read my mind and made the skirt just for me.

Hello

This is the first blog I've ever had to focus only on my love of art and crafting and it is exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. I'd like to start by introducing myself. My name is Nicki, I'm 29 and live in St. Louis, Missouri. I love history, arts and crafts. I come from a creative family and my mother has been a big influence on my love for creating things. We both share a love for vintage designs and fabrics, doll making, signs, miniatures, primitives and jewelry. We are always making something new, either to wear or keep for ourselves or as gifts, but lately we decided to sell some online.

I'll be posting again soon with a few things I've been working on and will be selling. I'm excited to find out what other people think as well so feel free to comment or share your own interests, too. Our name is 58 Cherries and we are listed that way on both etsy and ebay.
