Beautiful New Magazine

Just check out the new Somerset Studio magazine cover!! I can't wait to get my hands on one - Danita is featured and they put the prettiest paintings ever on the cover. So cute!!

I love Frida portraits - there are so many different interpretations out there. Like, Adri, who makes cute little round Frida portraits, too. And then there's the awesome Frida dolls made by Du Buh Du Designs like this one.

A Beautiful Day

The first flower of spring in my garden...

More flowers on the way...

Above my back door...

The view of my 103 year old house from the back...

A pretty detail of a metal flower stand...

Just a few sights I enjoyed yesterday when it was 70 degrees outside. I can't wait until there are leaves on the trees and more flowers to enjoy. The weather is now swinging back to cold, but the promise of spring is peeking out beneath the dried leaves.

Spring Cleaning Sale!!

Hurry and grab that canvas, necklace or box you've been eyeing. I'm cleaning my shelves for new Spring Items coming soon!! Everything listed before February is on sale now - and some of those sale items have FREE shipping, too!! Woohoo!
Sale ends 3/1

One of those days...

Have you ever dropped a full jar of salsa while cleaning?

I hate mondays.

To cheer myself up from spring cleaning woes I must remind myself that spring cleaning means spring is coming! I have a little yellow crocus blooming in my yard and I'm beginning to decorate my house with pictures of birds, nests, eggs and flowers. I'm feeling rather egg-y...

I was also happy to see Heather's having a Spring Cleaning Sale. Go buy a print to help her out in cleaning the shelves up for new spring items. I think it's a great idea so I'm going to have one of my own. I'll post as soon as I can about that! I've been working on some lovely spring items and will be posting those soon so I hope some of you will help me clean my shelves, too. :) There, I feel better. Bargains always brighten my day!

Life is Sweet

After seeing cinnamon rolls on just about everyone's blog, I finally caved and had a few of my own last weekend:

Mmm...the smell drives me crazy.

And of course this weekend was Valentine's day so we had a few more sweets:

An extra large cookie in my new heart shaped pan. So big I couldn't fit it on a plate. Next time I'll add walnuts or pecans.
And then a prezzie came in the post from my Fairy Godmother:

A vintage coin purse, homemade valentine and three sugary cookies - isn't she sweet?
Hope everyone else had a great weekend. I'm heading over to my store to add a few things. More later!

Field Trip Friday

I'm not really prepared for much of a post, but I just wanted to share a few favorite places to go in St. Louis for those of us who love all things vintage.

First up: The White Rabbit (9030 Manchester Rd. St. Louis)- a cool little boutique full of shabby chic style furniture and decor. I often spot their little van with a rabbit logo on it at estate sales and think , oh no - they've cleaned out all the good stuff already! ;) They buy lots of old furniture and paint it white or light pink and resell them, but they sell super fast so you have to really jump on it. I love their baby room full of vintage children's items and clothing.

This is a cute little vintage baby's dress I bought a few years ago:

It looks really cute hanging on my door in the summer.

They just moved as they had a bad flood last year and lost all their inventory - so sad! They are now located across the street from a famous St. Louis eatery now - Carl's Drive In. Famous for their burgers and homemade root beer.

Yum! It's a very small diner and you may have to wait for a spot, but it's worth it just for the root beer.

And if you want antiques in St. Louis you just have to go to Cherokee Street. It's the must-see spot for antique stores and also a great place to see some architecture. Here's one of many several cool buildings there:

There really is a mix of stores there - antique stores with lots of furniture, vintage clothing boutiques, and really cute cafe's, too, which you'll need to visit to sit down and catch your breath because it's over seven blocks of businesses there. I wish I had some pictures from the last time I visited, but if I get a chance soon I'll post pictures of some of their cute shops and some great vintage clothes.

That's it for today, but there are lots of great St. Louis places I want to show so I'll have to get out my camera this spring and show you!

Shopping Finds

There's nothing I love more than finding a little treasure when I'm shopping - something that just screams - take me home! Well, here I have two great finds I'm enjoying right now.
First, this lovely canvas/vintage photo. I've long been in love with vintage photos, especially panoramic photos. You know the kind, a large class photo or group photo of some special interest or achievement. I've seen a few in my favorite restaurants and even came across one in a flea market, but the picture wasn't quite good qualitywise and falling apart and didn't have that 'something' that makes it intruiging to stare at. But then one day I was out shopping and found this:

Granted it isn't the original - it's a canvas print, but what's great about that is the quality of the photo is perfect and I have no need to have a frame specially made! It's stretched and mounted on the frame and ready to hang or sit on a shelf. And right now it is sitting on a shelf in my upstairs bathroom. These bathing beauties of the twenties are just so cute! They all have different outfits and if you look closely there are kids crowding around and peeking through their legs! You could stare at this loooong photo for ages finding details and find something new you missed before. They had another one with ladies dressed up in coats and hats, etc. Now I wish I'd bought it, too, but the swimsuits in this one just grabbed my attention. It's three feet long!

Just look at those outfits, the parasols, the knee highs and shoes! To think, this is just a little part of the photo...

And another fantastic find - my new typewriter. I've been wanting one in my room so I mentioned to my mother that I'd like to find a small one to put on my bookshelf and just look what she and my dad stumbled upon at an estate sale last weekend!

It's small, it's in good condition (just needs some rubber feet on the bottom and screw in one little part) and the best part...RED! Whoa! I just saw a little picture of a part of someone's typewriter about a week ago and said I'd never seen a red typewriter before and wouldn't it be cool to find one. And then we did. Wow! The Vintage Fairy must be listening to me! And this sale? Was on my street. I kid you not. My dream typewriter was living just a few houses away from me the whole time. We even bought another typewriter they had, but it isn't half as interesting to look at, but the white keys are in fantastic shape so we're going to take them off and use them for jewelry. (My mother makes earrings and bracelets from typewriter keys)
So I better be ready this Saturday to do some more estate sale shopping. Maybe I'm pressing my luck expecting another great find so soon, but you'll never know if you don't get out there.
And don't forget - the giveaway winner will be announced this Thursday - if you haven't signed up do so fast!

Friday Posting Ideas

I've been browsing blogs and I've seen two Friday idea posts that sound interesting. Fashion Friday and Friday Field Trip posts. Both sound fun and something to look forward to each week. I'm going to try to join in when I can and I wanted to mention it here for anyone else interested in doing so, too. For Fashion Friday - either post a picture or two of a favorite outfit of the week or post pictures/links to clothes online that you want to buy or find inspirational. I've seen this on Teresa Sheeley's blog and Little Byrd Vintage.

Friday Field Trip is new, shabbyscraps is starting it and asking for other bloggers to join in and add to her list. Just take your camera along when you go shopping around your town and share your favorite items or purchases with us. This gives us all a list of shops to try if we ever visit your town - what a great idea!

Valentines and New Items

I love vintage valentines so when I saw this package at Barnes and Noble I just had to have it!

Inside are 24 different vintage valentine cards! They are all so beautiful and unique - most are rectangular, but some are different shapes like hearts, shoes, etc.

They are so cute! If you're interested in getting some - better hurry to your nearest Barnes and Noble to grab them before they run out. These are light years better than the usual packs of cards I see in the stores this time of year.

And in other news, I've added yet more items to the shop. Another Literary House, but last time it was made with German text (which A Fanciful Twist snatched up and posted about on her blog around Halloween) and this time I've used English - pages from a vintage book on composers. Brahms is mentioned on the house along with other names. Very cute!! If it doesn't sell that's fine with me, I think it looks very nice on my shelf! lol

And today I've added a few very cool framed prints - the prim dress and jacket which I sold on canvases a few months ago - and a new print - a vintage typewriter! Very cute and also quite welcome in my home until they find a new one.

So if you're interested - check out my store!

New Items

Just a quick note that I've posted a few new items in the shop yesterday. The two framed silhouettes are just so pretty and suited for Valentine's Day.

My two favorite romantic images are silhouettes and love letters so I combined the two - the french makes it tres romantique, oui? SOLD - thanks, Heather! :)

And another favorite of mine is the french rabbit box - I just love little trinket boxes.

Also in the shop is another pair of silhouettes on wood - the man silhouette really reminds me of Mr. Darcy. A very handsome profile. The silhouette in the framed version above is really nice, too, as it has a very Austen period collar. I think I'm having a little too much fun with those silhouettes...

We had eight inches of snow earlier this week, but already the snow is melting. Very sad. But soon it will be spring again and that is definitely something to look forward to. I can't wait til the crocus blooms and the daffodils light up the yard. I wish I'd thought to plant more bulbs this past fall. Oh well, there's always next year.
